Activity Title: Initial 'Block' Placements
Up to 10 consecutive days (two weeks) of work experience with a local employer.

Who is the activity for: All Year 10-11 students.
Number of hours/days: Normal working hours - up to 40 hours per week.
Funded by: Work experience is part-subsidised by the Learning & Skills Council. Pending confirmation of the level of the grant in 2005-6, schools will be charged as follows: £26.26 for one or two weeks; £31 for Special Schools' 3-week placement and placements for out-of-area students. It is anticipated that this grant will be reduced in 2006-7 by approx 25%, with a corresponding increase in the charge to schools.
Programme outline Countec EBP provides a directory of placement opportunities with employers across all industrial sectors and geographical areas within MK. Countec liaises with schools and employers to secure agreement of placements and processes required contractual paperwork. All employers are visited to ensure Health & Safety and Child Protection requirements are met in accordance with 'Safe Learner' procedures established by the Learning & Skills Council.
Strengths Meets several WRL curriculum requirements, especially when combined with in-school preparation and de-briefing activities. Can help improve student confidence by providing experience of success in adult working environment.

Criteria for assessing programme Student self-evaluation through Student Report. Employer's Report sent to Countec EBP and forwarded to school for inclusion in student’s Progress File or other record of achievement.
Number and range of users to date Operated in MK since 1970s, originally through Trident, now providing placements for up to 3000 students per year across the city.
