Students challenged to work in teams to design
and produce a new product or service and pitch to a potential
buyer. Employers support as general advisers, e.g. teamwork,
problem solving, or as specialists, e.g. design, marketing,
finance. Employers normally involved in ‘judging’ presentations. |

Year 10 students of all abilities including those with weak literacy skills and disaffected. |

One day (5 hours). |
| Funded by: |
Charge to school: from £200 per class group up
to 30. If offsite, additional charges may apply for transport,
venue, catering, etc. |
| Programme outline |
Student groups compete in teams of 5-6 to design, produce
and sell, a product using only a box of mystery items.
Employers lead morning training workshops for student groups
in the processes of design, making, people and selling.
Individual and team prizes awarded for a range of competencies
demonstrated. |
| Strengths |
Very flexible. Proven to engage students with low literacy
skills and disaffected attitude to work. Countec certificate
awarded on completion of challenges, with links to Key
Skills accreditation: Problem Solving and Working With
Others. |
