Activity Title: Enterprise Day
Students challenged to work in teams to design and produce a new product or service and pitch to a potential buyer. Employers support as general advisers, e.g. teamwork, problem solving, or as specialists, e.g. design, marketing, finance. Employers normally involved in ‘judging’ presentations.

Who is the activity for: Year 10 students of all abilities including those with weak literacy skills and disaffected.
Number of hours/days: One day (5 hours).
Funded by: Charge to school: from £200 per class group up to 30. If offsite, additional charges may apply for transport, venue, catering, etc.
Programme outline Student groups compete in teams of 5-6 to design, produce and sell, a product using only a box of mystery items. Employers lead morning training workshops for student groups in the processes of design, making, people and selling. Individual and team prizes awarded for a range of competencies demonstrated.
Strengths Very flexible. Proven to engage students with low literacy skills and disaffected attitude to work. Countec certificate awarded on completion of challenges, with links to Key Skills accreditation: Problem Solving and Working With Others.

Number and range of users to date Highly successful pilot with 60 students from 5 schools in off-site event at Winterhill Conference Centre in March 2005: Leon, Lord Grey, Radcliffe, St. Pauls, Sir Frank Markham.
