DHL and iPEC Enjoy Neighbourhood Partnership

DHL and Countec are neighbours, situated next door to one another, and now firm friends. On Friday 19th November, eight staff from DHL popped across to see what Countec’s iPEC was all about.
DHL staff were surprised by what they found. “I was surprised how relaxed and professional the students seemed, especially since we’ve had some trouble with their behaviour outside our building recently,” said Tracey Hill, DHL’s Facilities Supervisor, who organised the visit. ”It’s good to see the students enjoying their work. I wish I’d gone to a school like this.”
Students felt very positive about the visit. Hannah Sawyer, iPEC student, enjoyed showing the DHL guests around. “It’s been good to have the guests, nice to meet other people who are different to us.”
“I was a bit worried about coming here because I thought I might find my younger self,” said DHL’s Julie Smith, PA to the Chief Finance Officer. “We don’t all fit in the same box. I certainly didn’t when I was 15.”
“I didn’t know if iPEC students would be willing to take the support,” said DHL’s Carmel Bauling, PA to the Vice President of Commercial. “But they seem to have a very positive attitude. It proves everyone has a different way of learning.”
iPEC staff were pleased to host the guests. “It’s been lovely to meet the neighbours,” said Bev Wise, Personal Tutor in iPEC. “Sometimes our students give our neighbours a hard time and we really appreciate opportunities like this to host and talk to them. It’s good learning for the students to see neighbours working together.”
Towards the end of the visit, some ideas came up for further partnership working, such as mentoring and sharing fund-raising activities.
“DHL have done lots for us over the past few months,” said Tom Bulman, Countec’s General Manager. “From donating cupboards to hosting visits from Business Studies students in other schools, DHL has proven a very good listener and a committed corporate citizen. I’m excited by the idea of further innovations in this partnership, perhaps involving other neighbours on Witan Court.”
