Employability Skills Improving in MK

Recent research by Countec shows that employability skills among 14-16 year olds in Milton Keynes schools are improving.
Based on more than 2,000 employer reports rating young people after two-week work experience placements, there appear to be improvements compared with last year in all but one of the employability skills defined by the CBI.
"Although the improvement is small, just 1% across the board, and the science isn't perfect, being based on the assessments of employers who are not trained assessors, this is good to see," said Tom Bulman, Countec's General Manager. "Most impressive is the 4% increase in students' positive attitude."
The results, based on a four-point rating scale, are as follows:
| Employability Skill | 2009-10 | 2010-11 |
| Self Management | 83% | 84% |
| Team Working | 79% | 78% |
| Problem Solving | 71% | 72% |
| Business & Customer Awareness | 72% | 72% |
| Functional Skills (Literacy, Numeracy & ICT) | 78% | 79% |
| Positive Attitude | 77% | 81% |
