Employer
Employers take on young people as paid employees, either part-time as a Teen Temp or on Apprenticeships (four days a week with release for training on the fifth).
Teen Temps
“We’ve been delighted by the quality of young staff we have recruited through work experience” – Emma Ireland, HR Manager, McDonalds
You can employ a 15-16 year old school student for up to 12 hours per week outside school hours (35 hours per week in holidays). National minimum wage doesn’t apply but the young person must be issued with a work permit by the Education Welfare Service. We will organise this for you.
We can advertise your ‘Teen Temp’ work vacancies for young people on our website. We can also link you with strongest candidates based on their employability ratings in Work Experience reports.
Many 15-16 year olds want to do some paid work alongside school studies. Paid work gives them responsibility and respect, as well as the reward of hard cash. It affirms a young person’s self-value – an important rite of passage to responsible citizenship.

The following links will take you to the forms that need to be completed by the employer, signed by the parent (in addition to the medical declaration) and then forwarded to the Education Welfare Service for authorisation.
