First Term Primary WorkOut! Pilot Success

The results of the Summer 2011 pilot are as follows:
Of 508 pupils involved in the pilot to date, 100% agreed or strongly agreed that they ‘enjoyed the session’ and 97% said they had ‘learned a lot about work’.
“I liked the bit where you try to figure out what they worked as,” wrote a pupil from Long Meadow School. Another wrote: “I liked finding out how some people enjoy and dislike their jobs.”
Of 28 staff involved in the evaluation, representing six primary schools, 100% agreed or strongly agreed with the following:
- “Pupils learned a lot about the world of work”
- “The session helped students develop self-confidence”
- “Pupils found the session engaging”.
Nikkie Pickering, Assistant Headteacher of Oxley Park Primary School, wrote this after the session there on 19th May:
“Primary WorkOut! was a great experience for the children and teachers at our school. The children gained insight into a range of different careers and it gave them an excellent opportunity to ask questions and get feedback from the people who really do the work! It was £100 very well spent and an opportunity which we hope to build in termly for our Year 5 and 6 children in the future. I would strongly recommend the programme and can only celebrate how brilliantly organised and run the sessions were.”
David Harper, Headteacher of Heronsgate School, wrote this after the session on 20th May:
“Primary WorkOut! showed our pupils the breadth of occupations in MK, that you don’t just work for money but that it influences your lifestyle and you get more from work than just paying for your basic needs. It helped them think of their lives in terms of the chances and opportunities they can seize for themselves.”
