Get That Job!

Get That Job! is a half-day workshop in which young people develop their understanding of steps to success in getting a job or work placement. It has been delivered in various locations, usually secondary schools, and proven to be effective and popular with 14-19 year olds of a wide ability range and guests from a wide range of work sectors.
The learning activities are based on our 'STAIRS' framework - the steps people need to climb as they move into work:
- Skills required for any job, the employability skills
- Types of work available - using current MK data
- Applications - filling in an application form, based on a generic job description and person specification, and short-listing others'
- Interviews - learning how to be both a good interviewee and interviewer
- Risk assessment - how to stay safe
- Success record - how to record your achievements and learning for communicating to the next employer.
The workshop begins with a round of WorkOut!, based on Career WorkOut!, in which young people ask questions about the job application and interview experiences of guests from the world of work.
The workshop ends with an X-Factor style competition in which four short-listed 'applicants' compete to make the best impression on an interview panel including guests and young people.
Feedback is usually extremely positive, with school staff and students commenting on the relevance and engaging pace of the action.
