iPEC Graduates Praised by MK Dons

26 young people have graduated from iPEC, the independent Personalised Education Centre run by Countec Education Business Partnership. (See photos.)
During the graduation ceremony, which was held at the City Discovery Centre in Bradwell Abbey, students were praised for their achievements and several special awards were given.
Paul Mitchell, guest of honour from Milton Keynes Dons FC (pictured with student Ruby Chivers), said: "I was very impressed with the students and what the staff have been doing to help them achieve."
iPEC’s aim is to provide full-time alternative education to 50 excluded or at-risk 14-16 year olds so they can secure places in further education, employment and/or training. It is one of three PECs funded by MK Behaviour Partnership (secondary schools and the Local Authority).
Of 26 students graduating this year, 25 achieved their goals through a curriculum including core English, Maths, and ICT plus a wide range of vocational training opportunities with MK Christian Foundation, secondary schools and other partners, where students are able to study BTECs and GCSEs in line with their personalised learning plan.
iPEC Manager, Soo Smith, said: “I was great to hear the tutor summaries detailing each student’s academic achievements and careers plans for September, which included sixth form, college, apprenticeships and jobs. It is also wonderful to hear parents telling their sons and daughters how proud they are of what they have achieved during their time with iPEC, and to see the warmth of relationships between staff, parents and students. It was a great night.”
In a card to iPEC staff, student Sam Brind wrote: “Thank you for helping me turn my life around.” Carol Fox, Sam’s mother, said: “I would like to say a great big thank you to iPEC staff for all they have done for Sam, for helping him to turn into a very nice young man.”
One enterprising student, Sharly, managed to secure some paid part-time work with the burger van that was serving hot food on the night!
