I joined iPEC in April 2010 as a Learning Mentor to work with teenagers in an alternative education provision. My main responsibility is to support the Personal Tutor in delivering Personal Learning Plans to key stage 4 students. I help with the delivery of functional skills (Literacy, Numeracy and ICT), BTEC applied Science and Workskills mainly through small group work and one to one mentoring. I also assist my personal tutor to set up and support students with work experience placements. It’s challenging, fun and rewarding when our students do well and move onto work, college, apprenticeship or reintegrate back into mainstream school. I also help over at our KS3 restart programme.
