My Quietest Students Participated

WorkOut! has been extended to support GCSE English assessment. See video.
In an important pilot at The Radcliffe School, English teachers conducted Speaking & Listening assessments for 65 Year 10 students as they undertook speed-interviews with 20 guests from the world of work. Their conclusion was very positive.
“The activity captures students speaking at their best," said Joe Berry, English teacher. "It brings real-life context for discussion...enhances what you can get from them in the classroom. On some students it has a massive effect.”
Chris Lee, Head of English, said: “Some of my quietest students actually participated in a way they would not in the classroom.”
“The biggest surprise was how much positive feedback the students got from the employer guests," said Joe Berry. "It was very empowering for them, helped give them confidence in themselves and their speaking and listening skills.”
99% of students said they had enjoyed and learned a lot from the session. One student said: “What I enjoyed most was how open all the interviewees were to me and how you could ask them a relevant question and they’d answer with relevant feedback.”
Another student said: "I enjoyed meeting people with different personalities and finding out about their journies through life.
Countec plans to extend WorkOut! in English to other schools. If you are interested, please contact michael.sandison@countec.org .
