The Radcliffe School Pioneering Inclusion

The Radcliffe School Pioneering Inclusion

The Radcliffe School has extended its teaching this year to include students who are attending Personalised Education Centres (PECs).  PEC students do not attend mainstream school for various reasons, including challenging behavior, and The Radcliffe is pioneering a new approach by including these students in mainstream BTEC courses delivered on the school site.

Ken O’Shaughnessy, teacher of Business BTEC at The Radcliffe, said:  “It’s been a real pleasure working with PEC students.  Their positive attitude and good natured approach make the lessons something I really look forward to.”  Colleague Stuart Rennie said:  “There’s strength in having students from such a variety of backgrounds.”  Rachel Smith, Learning Mentor at iPEC (pictured right) said:  “Some iPEC students, like Ryan Moss (pictured left), are doing so well we hope they’ll join The Radcliffe sixth form.”

Another student, Corey Budd, has successfully returned to The Radcliffe School after a period on the iPEC roll.  “Corey has made a remarkable reintegration into the Radcliffe,” said Julie France, Head of House at The Radcliffe. “He has a much better attendance rate and appears much happier in school. He has built good relationships with staff and academically seems much more motivated. He is now on track to get several GCSEs.”
