Working The World From Wolverton

For someone who works close to where he grew up, Keiron Gallimore, Group Managing Director of TXM Recruit in Wolverton Mill, has come a long way.
At 13, while at Radcliffe School, Keiron was earning money from three jobs outside school hours: fish and chip shop, Texas DIY store and newspaper round. Today at TXM, the UK's third fastest growing recruitment consultancy, his operations span the globe and employ hundreds of people.
"I wasn't particularly academic at school, just doing the minimum to get my English and Maths," he says. "Working outside school helped me learn to communicate with other people - even people older than my dad. It taught me to respect people as individuals."
Keiron thinks the economy would be helped if there was more work related learning for secondary school students. "I think it's good for young people to go into some form of paid work outside school because it makes them feel valued, gives them responsibility for money and adds value to society," he says. "Earning is a lesson in itself. If you have to earn money to get what you want, you appreciate it more."
Keiron is taking part in school activities run by Countec and TXM Recruit has agreed to sponsor part of Countec's operation in 2012. "Career WorkOut! is good because it introduces young people to lots of adults and opens their eyes to new possibilities of what to do with their lives," he says.
"My experience of the students has been extremely positive. Some are really switched on and already have their blinkers off. We need to find more routes for those who want to get hands on."
